JOHNNY’S DOES JOKES WITH Harriet Dyer, ALUN COCHRANE & ADAM STAUNTON MC
We’ve got another cracking line-up for February’s comedy night. Join us for a laugh or two (hopefully more!) with Harriet Dyer, Alun Cochrane & Adam Staunton MC.
Monthly comedy nights have come to Johnny’s! Held on the last Friday of every month, you’re in for a treat with “Jokes at Johnny’s!!
Start the year as you mean to go on with a cheeky tickle of your funny bone! We’re kicking off 2023’s comedy nights with Raymond Mearns, Alex Boardman and Tony Vino on MC.
Tony Vino has been touring the comedy scene since early 2005 performing across the UK and internationally. He is best known for the way he seamlessly mixes well thought out observational humour with audience interaction and quick witted responses. His life and interests are wide ranging, and so is his material, all performed in a warm, friendly and non-offensive style. When hosting festivals and corporate events Tony’s confident effervescent persona has been found ideal for engaging crowds in their 100’s and 1000’s.
Well aware of social and political issues Tony has been called upon to entertain at many high profile events for charities such as Christian Aid, Oxfam, Fairtrade Foundation and TearFund. He’s also been the tour support act for TV acts such as Jimmy Cricket and Tim Vine. He travels internationally performing at resorts and on cruises. He has performed for TV & Radio and was even called upon to be the warm up comedian for BBC’s Songs of Praise (a low point in his career).
“Uplifting style, great delivery and consistently funny throughout” Sam Walker, BBC Manchester
As a regular contributor to BBC Radio Scotland’s “The Fred Macauley Show” and with a number of television credits and a BAFTA award winning short film behind him, Raymond Mearns is now one of the most sought after entertainers in Scotland today. At this time the exceptional talents of this Glasgow comedian can be seen regularly at clubs including Jongleurs, The Stand and many more.
He is perhaps best known for his appearances in Limmy’s Show and as an Actor in the movies “Ae Fond Kiss” and “It’s a Free World” both directed by legendary British film director Ken Loach.
Raymond started doing stand-up comedy in 1994 and has performed regularly all across the UK and internationally where he is noted for his ability to deliver sharp observational material combined with lightning quick improvisation.
“A personality so huge it fills the room” The List
Alex was one of a small band of writers who worked on the second series of John Bishop’s Britain on BBC 1 and he made a significant contribution to it being the highest rated stand up show of 2011 bringing in six million viewers a week. He can turn material around quickly and has the great skill of enhancing existing ideas to make a show better rather than just wishing to force his own material which makes him a great collaborator” John Bishop
“Alex started stand up the year before me at the same dodgy backrooms and pubs in Manchester. He has gone on to be one of the most assured confident stand ups on the circuit and regularly plays all the top comedy clubs here and abroad. I employed him as a writer when I was on 8 Out of 10 cats, he is quality.” Jason Manford
“A great comic and a skilled writer” Sarah Millican
Alex Boardman is now one of the most sought after acts in the country due to his ability to interact with any audience and to seemingly conjure something out of nothing. His free flowing style and natural charm breeze through in performances. His unique brand of “Flattery and abuse” is done with a lack of malice and a big sense of fun.
Before you ask, he is no relation to Stan Boardman.
“Very Funny, a rare mixture of wit and charm”
The Guardian
“Probably the quickest I’ve ever seen, certainly the funniest.”
The Big Issue
“Improvised witticisms from the acerbic Mancunian. A veteran of the Madchester phenomenon, his loved-up reminisces and tall tales can lead anywhere on any given night.”
